Investigation
Fire Prevention is the administrative side of the career of being a fire fighter that helps prevent fires from happening by enforcing fire laws and educating the public. There are four areas of fire prevention: Investigation, Inspection, Plans Review, and Public Education.
Fire Safety and Prevention
After a fire takes place, investigators go to the scene of the fire to find what caused the fire to happen.
Inspectors go to commercial buildings to ensure that the building is non-fire hazardous and safe to open to the public.
Plans review is where contractors submit three copies of blueprints plans of a building need to be submitted with an application for a permit. They must abide by all fire codes before the man at plans review approves it. If there are any mistakes, the blue prints will be sent back and asked to make corrections before resubmitting.

Plans Review
Educating the public on fire safety and how to prevent a fire. Elementary schools go on Station Tours to hear the fire fighters talk to them about what to do in case of a fire.
There are also programs that families and elderly people may attend to learn about fire safety. If they do not have a smoke alarm installed in their house, plans will be made to install one.
